Short history of SLOCOLD
Ex-Yugoslavia era
During the existence of SFRY, i.e. until the year 1991, experts and scientists in the field of dam
engineering were operating under JDVB (A Yugoslav society for large dams ) with the head office in Belgrade),
through which they appeared in the international arena (ICOLD-International Commission on Large Dams). With the
dissolution of the common country, the Slovenian area was left without an organization which would join/connect
experts of various profiles in the field of flood control engineering on a non-profitable level.
Establishment of SLOCOLD
In November 1992 in IBE, a narrow group of individuals launched a campaign to found a Slovenian society for
large dams, which was named in accordance with ICOLD practice the Slovenian national committee on large dams.
The founding general meeting was held on 26.2.1993 in the presence of 24 founding members. All formalities
regarding the basic organization were concluded on 14.4.1993 with the entry of SLOCOLD into the register of
societies at the MNZ (Ministry of the Interior).
SLOCOLD became a permanent member of ICOLD on 5.11.1993 at the 61. annual meeting of ICOLD (in Cairo) as the 78. regular member.
